The Wind, She Blows!

And blows and blows!  For about a week, the wind seems be be strong most of the time.  The good thing about that is that it keeps the temperature down, which we like. Always need to look on the positive side.

Another view of WS, taken from the only spot on the ranch where I can get an AT&T signal, and it’s a good climb!

One of the really nice things about living on this hill is that I’ve been able to leave Joy and Shiloh off their tie-outs.  ( The exception is if they go outside without me after dark).  They enjoy the freedom and independence and have only strayed once, when I didn’t take them on their afternoon walk so they decided to take one one their own.  I missed them in a few minutes and found them at the bottom of the hill.  We all came back up the hill and I put them on their tie-outs for the rest of the day.  The next day we started with freedom again and they seemed to ‘get it’ and have not strayed again.  So far.

So a Qi Gong class has started on Wednesday mornings in the clubhouse.  We’ve met twice, the first time we watched a DVD to learn a bit of the history of Qi Gong.  I learned that it is the ancient grandparent of the Martial Arts and things like T’ai Chi.  It’s a holistic system of movements and meditation….a very gentle exercise.  It was developed in China over 5000 years ago.  Known to some as Chinese Medicare. 😊

Only 4 of us have attended class so far, a man who has been practicing Qi Gong for many years, a couple who have some experience with it, and then there is me, new at this.  Hopefully others will become interested as time goes on.  Many folks will be leaving CLR in the next month or so, but we plan to start the class again next fall.

Some other activities I’ve attended here…a wine tasting, which featured Arizona or southwestern wines….

Everyone who attended brought a bottle.

Also we had quite a Fat Tuesday celebration.  My Margarita recipe seems to be quite a hit.

Along with any other Margarita we could lay hands on.

Joy and Shiloh were guests, since the party was held in Fred and Colleen’s new shed….more like a garage. (Fred’s Shed)

Ruth, who was here for the whole winter along with her horse Major, has gone home now…but they will be back!  She is leasing a boondocking site too!  Her sister Joyce will be joining her.

Here’s Major

The travel bug is beginning to bite me too….I’m starting to make plans.  Will share soon!

It all seems like so much fun!

    • Dawn, I’ve gotta tell you… it IS! I can hardly believe it. I worked from age 17 until age 65 and this freedom to play is just blowing my mind. I’m grateful… I’m thankful… but sometimes I still think I’m dreaming!

Sounds like such a nice community. I have a DVD with Qi Gong exercises but hard to get on a schedule of doing anything resembling exercise. Would love to be there for some classes and of course the Margarita’s and Wine! Keeping up my dreams of being out there and loving to hear your adventures. Hugs, Sharron

You have much to be thankful for!!

I made your margarita recipe but served it over ice as we did not have a blender. Yummy & strong!! Letting some ice melt helped- it was early in the afternoon and there was a long evening of game playing to occur haha

You’ll have to share how the Qi Gong turns out. My new doctor here wants me to do Tai Chi. Totally new to me!

Looks like you are having a great time with many friends at CLR. I would be interested in knowing more about Qi Gong! Until reading about it on your blog I had never heard of it ( which doesn’t mean anything). Love the sunset!! Looking forward to hearing about your upcoming travels. Have fun!!

  6. I know Joy & Shiloh are enjoying their freedom!! Sounds like such a great place to be…I would love having my alone time, yet being able to socialize when I wanted. The wind is a blowin’ here too…40mph gusts today. Guess we will be a group of healthy old…ladies. I am back in physical therapy, and my therapist is teaching me some Yoga exercises, but I would love learning Tai Chi. I also, have never heard of Qi Gong. Guess I’ll look it up.
So…your Joel Pole doesn’t get you a signal there?? No phone & no internet?

    • Hi Pat, sometimes with the Joel Pole I can get enough ‘juice’ to play ‘Words With Friends’ on my phone but so far that’s it. It’s an antenna but if there is nothing reaching it at all, it can’t amplify anything. The best it can do it 1 or 2 bars and that’s good considering the phone and IPad get none. I thought the pole would get none as well but decided to try it anyway and low and behold it’s there. Sometimes. In tiny doses.

      • Micky, I don’t remember your set-up, except for the Joel Pole. Do you also have an aircard, hotspot, or?? I think you have Verizon, correct? Also, how close are you to town or somewhere that you can connect? Do any of the other folks stay there through the summer, or do all the campers leave?

        • Hi Pat. I have a hotspot that is hooked up to the antenna inside through the tv connection.
I have AT&T which does not work at CLR except if you climb a mountain in the rocks and cactus to a place affectionately known as the AT&T phone booth. Otherwise I need to drive about 18 miles to use cellular. CLR has wifi between the hrs of 9am and 9pm but you have to be near the library or office to use it. Some folks here went together to get their own wifi which I could go in on except where I am it doesn’t seem to get a good signal either.
Soooo I got a cheap Verison flip phone with a phone card for emergencies. It is just for phone and text. It cost 12.88 at Walmart and a card that gives me 300 minutes a month costs $15.
The obvious solution would be to switch from AT&T as my main carrier to Verizon but I have reasons for not wanting to do that right now. Maybe next season when I get back here.
A few folks stay here all summer. Like less than 10 people I think.

Qi gong is great exercise for longevity. Check out Lee Holden’s DVDs. We’ve been exercising to them for years.

  8. How do you like southwestern wines, compared to California central coast?

    • Here again, I missed this! Why? I don’t know. Well of the AZ wines I tasted, I’ve found CA wines I like better. But… I only tried 3 AZ wines and over the years I’ve tried many more CAWines. 😀
