67

Sixty-seven was the year that I graduated from High School.  I never thought of it as an AGE for Pete sakes!  Yet now I have reached it!

Not sure how this happened, but what’s the deal with aging physically, but otherwise feeling like…oh, say, 20?

I was ok with 60 because I’d finally reached the decade in which I could retire….and I spent a lot of time preparing mentally for…um…’succulent sixty’.  Whatever.       I was darn happy with 65 because I knew I was going to retire at the end of the month, and by golly, it looked like I might actually make it!   Then I was busy with other things and I ignored 66.  But 67….wait.  Slow down!

Maybe someday I’ll look back and feel like 67 was ‘young’….only time will tell.

As it turns out, there is another solo woman Casita friend here at this RV Park.  She would prefer to remain nameless on this blog for now.  Today we went to some festivities at the Ninepipes Museum just outside of town.

It is really a great Native American museum, if you ever get a chance to stop in on Highway 93 just south of Ronan.

This Sioux war shirt was made for and used in the movie “Dances With Wolves” (my favorite movie ever), but there was an original from the 1800’s that really did look just like it, here at the museum.

There was so much beautiful beading!

They have  a beautiful gift store.  I loved this quilt, but it was over $400.

I bought this barrette, made by a Navajo beading artist.  Happy birthday to me!

The view outside, behind the museum.  This area where I’m staying is the Flathead Indian Reservation.

Later we went to Polson to a Mexican Restaurant on Flathead Lake and my friend bought dinner.   I enjoyed the food and the margarita!

A margarita with a view!  🙂  It was drizzling on and off, or we would have been sitting outside on the deck,

But inside was just fine!

Umm….my friend let them know it was my birthday so the gang came and sang to me and I was honored to wear a sombrero !

******************************

You know, there ARE good things about getting oldER.  That beloved Senior Pass is one of them.  The America The Beautiful Senior Pass becomes available to US citizens when at the age of 62 and costs $10 for lifetime.

Social Security and Medicare are nothing to sneeze at!  I love them!  There are senior discounts here and there. And there is some Re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-SPECT….just a little bit…” Take it when you can get it.  🙂  Having been a teenager in the 60’s was a pretty good deal too , with Mick, John and Paul singing to us….not too shabby.

But there is something else that I appreciate about getting older.

I am all the ages I have ever been.  They are all a part of me NOW.  Part of me is still 5 and 10, and sweet 16.  I’m 21, and 30….and well, you get it.  It’s all part of who I am now, and I love that.  Maybe it brings a little wisdom…having been there and done that.  Maybe I learned something along the way.  (Or not.) I feel like I am still learning.

And of course, getting oldER beats the alternative.

Loving life at 67!  Cheers!

Happy Birthday. Enjoy this year’s trip around the sun! I am turning 70 this August and it’s dawning on me for the first time that I am getting “old”. So being every age I’ve ever been is a great way to look at the passage of time. Birthday blessings to you!

    • Thank you Marcia….yes it’s kind of an awakening, isn’t it….realizing how the time is passing, and wow, it sure goes fast! Gosh when I was working, the days didn’t fly by like this! funny how there is always more to learn, isn’t it?

Good news, Micky. You picked the right day to have the Margarita and ice cream…no calories whatsoever when consumed on your birthday. Bet you didn’t know that, did you? Hurry! You still have time for seconds.

  10. The museum looks amazing..and the margarita..and dessert. Great point you made about being all the ages we’ve been. I like that! Course I’m older than any of you..will be 76 in Oct, but feeling 60, acting 40 or 50. Ah yes, life is good… .it is what we make it. And you, my friend, are also amazing!!

    • Hi Pat (Freespirit)…. Love that ‘in Louisiana’ part!
I do think it’s the how old we feel part that is more important than the actual years….and then yes, we act accordingly.
I think YOU are pretty amazing girl!

Mickey, HAPPY birthday! You are so right – the age you are is a compilation of past experiences that help make you who you are. I’m 70 ( graduated in 64). Enjoying the present moment for what it is and the treasured memories that come along with it.

Happy Birthday Mickey. And just so you know if you can still wear a sombrero (and ROCK that look!) than you are NOT really old. 🙂

Hope your birthday was the best day ever. And than the next day was even better!

  16. Hi,  I love your post. You have a nack for words.  My blog is not very  good.  Just getting started. Trying to learn how to use it. Happy Birthday!!!  My birthday is July 31 and will be 70.  Where did the time go.  I bought a very small trailer and pull it with my car.I started out in April driving from Fla to Mississippi and then north.  Changed directions to east where I visited family in New England.  After graduations, birthdays, grand daughters soft ball games, I will be heading to Maine for my birthday.  I love Maine, lobsters and sea foods.I was born in Saco Maine 1946.  I still have two relatives there to visit.  I always plan on going to Old Orchard Beach to get my clam cakes. Theyhave the best.  Today I just had my two solar panels installed.  I am so excited.  I need to buy 2 new batteries next and get it all hooked up so I can be self contained on the travels back home.  I hit 10 states so far and hope to hit 10-12 new ones on the way back.  I think I will leave New England Sept 1 as it starts to get very cold here.  I was planning on going West in November.  Texas, Arizona and all the other states I can see.  I plan on mostly boondocking.  I love this boondock you found on this blog. Would love to find it.I think I may know who you are seeing with another Casita.  I bet she has two dogs.  If so tell her Sharon from Fla. says hi. Look forward to reading your adventures. Sharon

    • Hi Sharon, it’s nice to meet you! I’m glad you are enjoying this blog. It sounds like you are having a wonderful time as you begin your travels. Good that you got to visit your family.
I’m sure you will love those solar panels and all the power they can provide for you.
I hope to get to Maine sometime too…not this year, but someday. I’ve never been there. I’m wondering which boondock you are referring to…if I knew I could help you find it.

Happy Belated birthday Mickey!! It sounds like you are on the mend and that is great news….It must be a scary feeling to have health issues all alone on the road in a strange place.

    • Thank you Sharon. Yes one of the issues solo RVer’s…especially full time solos….need to consider is health issues on the road. Known or chronic issues are one thing, but then there are the unknowns also (like Kerry’s broken leg!) If there are pets to consider then it’s an even bigger issue. Worth thinking about for those anticipating this lifestyle.

Happy Belated Birthday to you!!! Looks like you had a great day 🙂

Hope you are feeling better, wishing you all the best. I can’t wait to cash in on my discounts!
