Not that I can capture Big Sur in pictures, but for some reason, for the past 28 years, I keep trying to! These pictures were all taken on November 12. The only exception is the first picture which is the Morro Bay sunset reflected in WS’s window on November 11.
The beauty and mystery is deep here, and this is just a tiny sample of it.

Well, I think you did a great job of capturing the beauty of Big Sur.
Thank you Linda. I’ve probably taken over 500 pictures of the area over the years…I think I keep trying to keep it with me somehow…that beauty and that mystery. I think part of it is with me. If you haven’t been there it’s a highly worthy bucket list place.
Oh I have been there, more than once. I spent many years in the Bay Area, foothills above Sacramento, and Orange County. I do miss it. Your pictures are making me want to take a trip. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Lynda
Yes it sure is beautiful there Lynda. It’s less busy this time of year but it will get chilly. Often in the winter the road closes down too, due to slides, or sometimes it just breaks off and falls in the ocean! I love than human kind hasn’t been able to tame nature there yet.
Hope you have a wonderful thanksgiving too!
Hey Mickey,
You have such an amazing talent as a photographer! I see a new career for you! I totally would buy some of your pictures$$$$$!
Hi Terese. I’m glad you like the pictures! The scenery is so beautiful that I think it would be hard to take a bad picture. Just you and your camera take a ride out there one of these days and see what happens. I think you will be pleasantly surprised at what you come home with! π
Super Pics!!! Love the one of the fur kids π I left Cholla campground this morning (whaaaa) and I am now in Mesa, AZ…on my way to Yuma. Stay safe and happy!
Krystina
Hi Krystina, yes that’s just how you saw these fur kids last time, wasn’t it….they were looking out the window at you.
I am very excited to hear about where you end up in Yuma. I’ll be heading south myself in about two weeks, and still have really not much of a plan about where to go.
This should be interesting!
The pictures of Big Sur are pretty. My husband and I camped along Big Sur 23 years ago. We missed seeing the Big Sur River on that trip. I’m planning a camping trip to Kirk Creek campground this winter. I’ll have to make a stop along the river. Safe travels!
Hi Monica, you must be looking forward to camping in Big Sur again. You need to go farther north to see the river. The mouth of the Big Sur River is at Andrew Morela State Park, and that is also the southern-most part of it. You can hike out to the headlands there and look back and see the river mouth. The hike one way is about a mile, but then your going to want to walk along the beach too. Another nice place to see it is around Pheiffer Big Sur State Park.
The pictures I took were from behind the River Inn area.
For your friend Monica, she can reserve a site at Kirk Creek Campground. Good sites are by preference #9, #22, #15, and #7. Some sites have a good slope and not great with a camper of any kind. Reserve if at all possible!
Micky, how long will you be around here?
Thanks for the tip!
Thanks for the list of good sites Patty! I’ll be between Seaside and Salinas until December 1. Let’s get in touch!
How long will you be in the area? Would love to get together while you are around.
I’ll be between Seaside and Salinas until Dec 1. Can you text or call? Would love to have coffee or tea. π
The wind is howling making it 3 below zero in Michigan…..those pictures warmed me up and i could smell the ocean. Enjoy my friend!
Hi Marie, yikes 3 degrees! That hurts just thinking about it! I’ve gotten very spoiled living in California.
