On our walk this morning in Sparks, NV, I could see the snow capped mountains I was going to be crossing….

I didn’t get any pictures of the craggy beautiful mountains on the east side of the summit, but here is a pretty view.

I have a picture somewhere of
this same spot in June many years ago….covered in snow. Looks like a Christmas card.

Nice idea to make a medicine wheel. I’ve done that also and left it for whomever comes along. among other things, I feel it’s a sign of respect to Mother Earth. Glad you made it over Donner Pass and that the doggies have a huge play space!
I stood inside of it that night for awhile, watching the stars, facing the four directions. I’ve never stood inside a medicine wheel before, and I didn’t have any expectations about it. But as soon as I stepped in I felt a warming…a spiritual uplifting/earth connection, and it brought tears. I was surprised that happened.
I left it there too. I told the Ranger about it. He had never heard of a medicine wheel.
What a beautiful experience! It can be comforting and healing just to stand/sit in one for a while. Begin by facing East and move slowly clockwise to South, West and North. Just notice what you’re feeling and thank the spirits of the place for any wisdom or healing you may receive.
I noticed that north was the direction that touched me the most. I used the compass on my IPhone to get the directions accurate. 🙂
I haven’t heard of it either. Sounds cool. I’m so in awe of you for doing all this Micky! Really fun to read what you’re doing and be “on the road” with you (and Mick):-) Hugs!
Deb
Hi Deb, I’m pretty much in awe of you for what you’ve done too!
I’m really glad you are here…even though I know it’s just because you like sitting by Mick. 🙂
Thanks for the pictures
I feel like they are so lacking, compared to the beauty I saw yesterday in the mountains.
Hey, Micky! Here’s a voice from the past! Marie emailed me about your new life. Damn, girl, you never fail to amaze me. Your travels sound exciting, challenging (especially the backing up part!), and wonderful. I can relate to some of the challenges because Michael and I spent about 6 summers cruising the Great Lakes in our beloved sailboat “Strider”. Boondocking, whether on land or on water, really gives one a new perception of the beauty of our country (I need to include Canada in there too, for the Great Lakes). You’ve already seen more of the country than most people, and seen it at a slower pace, with more appreciation.
Keep on trucking, Micky, and I’ll keep following.
Hi Diane! Wow what a surprise to find you here girl! A GOOD surprise! Oh my gosh, yes, all the more challenging having your adventures on a sailboat. You must have some fantastic memories.
Yes that backing up thing….if I ever get that down and feel confident about it, I’m going to throw a big party.
There is just no end to the beauty is there…all kinds of beauty. There are so many places I want to see and experience…it’s all just beginning. 🙂
Lucky for your dogs to enjoy such a wonderful and huge dog park. I have never heard of a medicine wheel. It looks like it took you some time to make the wheel since you had to gather some rocks. I will give it a try one day when I’m in a clearing that has enough rocks. I like the idea of standing in the four compass directions staring up to the heavens. Happy to see that you made it over the pass safely.
Hi Monica. There are huge Medicine Wheels still visible in various areas of the US and Canada, made by Native Americans long ago. The meaning of them is varied depending on who you ask. It’s interesting to research them on Google or the like.
Good to be on the other side of the mountain! 🙂
I love the medicine wheel, I hope it stays there so that someday when I am passing through I can stand in it as you did.
Hi Shirlene, I’ve gotten behind answering….many errands to do today. I really enjoyed making the Medicine Wheel. If I ever had a permanent place to live again, I think I would make one there if possible. I wonder if the one by my camp is still there?
Wonderful pictures. Looks like your dogs are having a ball. I am enjoying your adventure and really enjoy your writing style.
So glad to have you along lifeisgood! What a great name:-). I’m happy that you are enjoying the blog! I really do enjoy writing it.
