“Tomorrow Is Another Day” part 2

I was going to write this tomorrow (another day 🙂 ), but due to some concern from friends and family, I’ll post sooner rather than later.

I’m healing and doing fine!

First, I decide to stay here in this…umm….RV Park…I guess you could call it that…for 3 days so the pulled muscles have some time to heal.

In the morning I dig around looking for another pair of glasses. I know I brought them, but I have a hard time finding things in here. I find them! There is very little change in the prescription so they should work.

I am set on getting the SD drivers license today, so I pull out my make-up. I haven’t used any since starting on this adventure, but now it comes in handy! My right eye looks like I’m wearing blue/gray eye shadow. (tomorrow it may look worse!) I goop on foundation. With the glasses, perhaps it won’t show. 🙂

I take some Tylenol and head to the DMV. Fifteen to twenty minutes after I arrive I’m walking out the door with my new drivers license! Hey, the picture isn’t half bad, either!

Later I drive to two different eye clinic type places, hoping my glasses can be repaired. It seems these California glasses are like foreign objects here. The best I get is ‘maybe we could get a similar lens but it would take at least 3 weeks…’
Later when I’m back in CA I will see about getting them repaired where I bought them. In the meantime I have this other pair that are working fine.

Remember I mentioned that on Monday it was 90 degrees when I arrived in the Rapid City area? I use the air conditioning during the day and sleep with the windows open through the night. Tuesday the high temperature is 56! It’s windy and drizzling rain most of the day. As I write this it is 45 degrees and raining. Possible thunder storms tonight, and a high on Wednesday of 48 with more rain. It will be a good day to hibernate and heal. The topper (Maureen you warned me!), Thursday, the day I’m planning to leave, the high is supposed to be 39 and there is snow in the forecast!

Yikes! 90 on Monday and 39 on Thursday!

No more fussing. You’re a nurse and you know your body best but I’m glad you’re hibernating for a bit. And I can understand not wanting to forfeit a deposit by arriving late. That’s one reason I try my best to NOT make reservations unless absolutely necessary.

Send some of that cold air our way. it was 98 today. I think we’re supposed to have some cooler weather later in the week.

Glad you have the backup pair of glasses.Once you get back to California or when you get to a big city (there are NO big cities in SD) you should be able to either get yours fixed or get a replacement pair.

  2. I would like to get to the point of not making reservations. When I called here (Americas Mailbox), the campground was full and they ‘reserved’ me an overflow spot….that would be, on the street! When I got here one spot had opened up in the park so they gave it to me for 3 days, after which time it is reserved again. There were other RV’s parked on the street last night and tonight too.

Micky, if you’ve got an iPhone, get the Find My Friends app and share it with family and close friends. You can always turn it off if you want real privacy, lol. Android may have it. Maybe someone else can give you that info if you need it.

    Glad you’re feeling better.

  4. So glad you’re okay! Congratulations on your new address. Now you can truly make home anywhere!

  5. Thank you! The morning light brings some new confidence and so do the encouraging and caring comments here.

  6. Update: Just to let you know I’m doing fine. Since there is snow forecast for tonight and Thursday I thought perhaps people changed their plans and there might be some extra spaces here, since I’m due to leave tomorrow. I’m not really wanting to drive in the snow and slush.,..
Turns out as of now there is just one space available in the overflow area (the street), but I’ll take it since it means I only have to drive there, instead of who knows where in this Black Hills area. That keeps me at this location until Friday. For now at least, the forecast for Friday is 58 degrees and sunny.
All is well. We are cozy and warm enough, staying in except for occasional walks to stretch our legs. I have endless maps to study and books to read!

  7. I love the cozy, cocoon like feeling of my little WS. Temp outside right now 41. Inside it’s 68 and rice is cooking on the stove.

Now’s a good time to throw some stuff in the crockpot. Chili? Cowboy Soup? Ol Blue’s Smokey Monterey Ham Soup (from rv.net)…that’s a good one…make it all the time. Maybe other blogerinos will come up with more suggestions. Hmmmm, you think that might be why I’m packin’ on the pounds?

When the weather improves, are you planning to head south?

    Safe travels.

  9. Yes I’m hoping to get out on Friday. They are still saying mid 50’s and sunny by then and for the week end into the 60’s. I will probably head towards Cheyenne…or Douglas. Not sure yet.

Food….:-). I brought my pressure cooker rather than my crock pot. I wanted to bring them both but just didn’t have the space. I recently made my very favorite soup which is lentil. I have a favorite split pea soup too, and chili….all meatless cuz I’m vegan. Today I made a bean burrito. Lentil soup sounds really good though so maybe that will be a project for me while it snows.

I love lentil soup. Care to share your recipe?

    Cat Lady

  11. Sure! I originally got it from The Moosewood Cookbook, but I’ve altered it over time and actually often change it depending on what I have on hand.

    Lentil Soup
Lentils….which ever kind you like 1-2 cups (the little french ones are nice but I also like regular brown ones)
Half a cup or so of barley, or a favorite rice….or some of each
Start with 6 or 7 cups of water….add more if needed.
Bring to a boil and then bubble softly till everything is soft.

Add veggies which ever you like
    ….as much as you like….
    carrots
    onions
    celery
    kale
    cabbage
    etc

I add some veggie broth seasoning mix, salt, pepper, oregano, rosemary, what-ever-you-like
    A bit of tamari
a touch of hot sauce if you’re in the mood
    can of chopped tomatoes

It gets thicker after the first day so you can use it as a stew, or add extra water and keep it soup. Serve with really good crusty bread!

    Hi Micky,
Just read with horror about your fall. Then, when I came to the part about having your picture taken with your face so banged up, I am so sorry, but I burst out laughing! Reminds me of the time I was to meet ” the love of my life” after not seeing him for 5 yrs. We were to meet at a restaurant. I had a rental car, and somehow, as I was getting out of the car, I managed to hit my face with the corner of the car door. I don’t think I could do that again if I tried! Split my lip wide open. Blood all over! Spent most of my “date” with my hand over my mouth!. So glad to know you are on the mend. Can’t believe the crazy weather out there! Really enjoy your posts. It’s so nice to travel along with you. Miss you!🐸

  13. :-))) Oh Mary, that car door thing sounds like something I would do! The anxiety of seeing the person after 5 years would probably cause me to do all manor of strange behaviors. :-)))

Well, it’s been interesting out here in my new home state of South Dakota! With the crazy weather, my oowies, and being at America’s Mailbox RV Park….packed in like sardines. All the neighbors that I’ve met are really nice though, and all with the united purpose of getting their SD drivers license and picking up mail.

I’m glad you are traveling with me Mary. Miss you too!

Catching up…..so sorry for the boo boo! I’d tell you to dose up with homeopathic Arnica but being a nurse, sure you have plenty of tricks. Wish I could stop in with some homemade chicken soup! Remembering our time at the SD license branch….in and out pretty quick. Jerry crushed his glasses….Walmart fixed us right up with temporary shades…. Hope your under the covers!

  15. 2graybirds's avatar cozybegone says:

    I meant VEGETABLE soup :O)

  16. :-))) Yay for veggie soup!

It’s snowing big fluffy flakes as I write this! Shiloh has never seen snow before and suddenly decided going outside wasn’t as important as he was thinking. Wouldn’t set foot in it. Joy saw snow in the Rocky Mts once before. I don’t know if she remembers, but she went right outside too pee. We’ll try a walk in a little while so Shiloh can see it’s nothing to fear….as long as he doesn’t have to drive!

My tricks for this morning consist of tylenol and coffee. Coffee heals everything on a snowy morning, right? 🙂
