In A Nutshell

So I wrote what I would post in my journal day by day, and I rewrote it last night for the blog and lost it out in the starry heavens somewhere when I tried to post it.  I won’t rewrite it again, just give you the nutshell version…which might be better anyway.  🙂

Monday I spent the night at a COE park at Black Butte Lake, 15 miles west of Orland CA.  The sunrise picture from the last post was taken the following morning.

High points from that camp:  A visit from friends Sophia, Michelle, and their little guy Oliver….and I went swimming with Joy and Shiloh, first time ever.

Tuesday I went on to Bushytail Campground in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.  Stayed there two nights without even a peep on internet or phone service.

High points from Bushytail:  The Quiet.  In the mountains in the woods, only one other campsite being used and there was just The Sound Of Silence.  IMG_0075The other high point was that we did NOT see a bear!

Leaving Bushytail I drove about 100 miles in the mountains, before I reached Hwy 101.  Oh, don’t get me wrong, it was BEAUTIFUL and we had perfect weather but when I finally arrived in Klamath at Mystic Forest RV Park, I continued to sway and weave until I fell asleep.  Or wait, maybe that was from the Margarita I made:IMG_0077

I’m here in the Big Trees for 3 nights and besides seeing the beauty of the Redwoods and the coast, I’d like to work on getting organized so I can find things!  Also, I bought a large bunch of organic kale from a guy at a road stand down the road….he went out and picked it fresh when I asked if he had any!  Today I’m going to use it, because it’s just too much to fit into my fridge!  :-)))

Sounds wonderful. Next time have TWO margaritas for me!!! 🙂 Enjoy your adventure, would love to see loads of pictures of the campsites as I doubt that I’ll ever get out that way in our RV 😦

  2. I’ll try to post more pictures. S

Don’t overdo, you’re making me tired, teehee. Sounds beautiful and thanks for the pictures!

  4. If you’re 62 or over, get the Senior Pass. You’ll be able to camp half price.

Are you going to keep up with your expenses like Sue so your blogerinos can see about what it’s costing to full-time? If you don’t want to show all your expenses, just keep up with the cost of campgrounds. You might also want to include fuel. Personally, I don’t need/want to know every penny you spend. That’s really none of my business. I would like to know about the fuel/cg fees, though. Just a thought.

I was starting to get concerned about you when we didn’t hear anything. Glad to know you and the pups are doing fine and having a great time. Take care. Hope to see you down the road.

    • I’m not sure yet if I want to list expenses. I’m thinking about that. I’ve never been good about finances and trying to list all or even some of that might be an extra stress right now. Once I learn the ropes of just everyday functioning as a full timer, I may rethink that. I know it would be helpful to others….heck it would be helpful to me!

      Cat Lady,
I click your name to see your blog and it links me with rvsue and her crew. How can that be? Anyhow, I love rvsue. I recently started following her blog as well as this blog.

Sounds like all is well! If you get near Crescent City, you would really enjoy a visit to the Battery Point Lighthouse. You can only tour during low tide and they have residents there that give a fabulous tour!

    • I will be going through Crescent City Patty, but probably won’t stop. Much as I want to just enjoy where I’m at, right now I’m on a mission and have destinations in mind, and time constraints. :-(( I DO love it up here though, and I will come back another time when I can meander along as slowly as I wish to.

I was up that way last weekend. In Shingletown at my sister’s. Just beautiful up there. I also lived in Arcata for 4 years back in the 80’s. Lots of great memories. I love that you swam with your babies.. Can’t wait to see more pics!!

    • Oh gosh Jilly, I guess I didn’t realize your sister lived up there. And I didn’t realize you lived in Arcata in the 80’s. Glad that the memories are good ones.

I LOVED swimming with Joy and Shiloh! I’ve wanted to do that for so long and never did till now. I think they were laughing when they saw me coming into the water! 🙂

It sounds like you have already had a few small adventures. Wonderful! You are heading through the same areas I’m hoping to in about three weeks.

How is the weather holding up for you? Clear, I hope.

Do let us know what you think of the Mystic Forest RV park…it would be good to know if it has your recommendation.

Also, how was the COE park at Black Butte Lake? Did it have hookups or did you dry camp? Would you recommend it as a good stopover place or a destination camp?

Enjoy the woods…for me the big trees are a good tonic for, well, just about anything. 🙂

Hi, I just started following your blog after reading your post on rvsue’s blog (at least that is where I think I read your post). I live in the Bay Area, and I have never been up to Shasta-Trinity National Forest. That area looks very pretty that it is now on my to travel list, which is growing daily. So, I’m one of your first followers. I’m looking forward to reading more of your adventures.

    • Hi Monica,

Thank you for coming along on this journey!

Yes, I’m an RVSue follower too. 🙂 I lived in the Monterey Bay area and now I live where ever I park.
This area IS very pretty! The trees are magical and there is so much green…I realize it gets greener as I go north and I’m looking forward to that, too.

  9. Weather is beautiful Michael! 70’s today, just perfect, especially after the high 90’s we just experienced inland.
I love it up here! The trees and the green and the coast. Yes the trees are such a positive life force and so majestic and they send out such good vibes….

Highly recommend Mystic Forest RV Park! $34 a night for full hookups, clean bathrooms, free showers, beautiful path to walk. A nice older couple own it and run it. Also has a laundry. I’m in space 20 which is surrounded by trees and near the bathroom but hidden from it. Some of the spots are out in the open though, so call and let the owners know what kind of spot you have in mind. It’s about 4-5 miles north of Klamath. They have free wi-fi, you have to get the code. Apparently Verizon has good reception here, but ATT tells me ‘no service’.

The COE at BBL has no hookups, and it may still be hot when you go. There is a really nice site all alone up on a hill, #65 I believe, where I’ve camped before in my truck. Great views of the lake. This time I wanted a pull through though, and I chose #38, which goes right down to the lake where you can swim. Look at the map of the park. Bathrooms are generally clean. I found the place because I needed a place to camp near Farm Sanctuary.
Now I need to talk about Farm Sanctuary. 🙂 At the exit to BBL, about 10 miles down, is a bit of heaven on earth. Gene Baur started rescuing farm animals about 27 years ago, and he has 3 sanctuaries now, where people can go and visit the animals and hear their stories. Animals (and people) there are treated with love and respect and the animals will never be commodities. If you are interested in veganism, FS will help you understand….
    Ok. Just sayin’. 🙂

    • I dunno Michael. It seems right now like my reply to you got posted out of order. I don’t know why. Hope you find it.

Farm Sanctuary is a wonderful tip! These are just the sorts of out of the way, nobody-has-heard-of-it neat things that I would absolutely love checking out. I do volunteer work at our local animal shelter and love all of the little critters, so a farm sanctuary is just my cup of tea. Thank you so much for the tip!

It is also really good to hear your experiences and impressions at each of the campgrounds….this is really helpful. I’m going to keep Mystic Forest in mind as I head north in about three weeks.

      Safe travels!

  10. Farm Sanctuary does tours. I’m not sure what their schedule is right now. Also if you called or showed up they would let you look around on your own, but not go into enclosures with the animals. They will be having ‘Celebration FOR the Turkeys’ in November. I’ve done some volunteer work there too, and loved every minute of it!

Take your time now..takes a lot of just resting up at first and taking it all in. The margarita will help!!!!

  12. Thank you for that affirmation on all of the above!
