“Leaving on a Great Adventure”

A long time ago….I don’t even remember when, I wrote that above line on my laptop calendar.  Tonight I can’t sleep so when I opened up my laptop awhile ago, that little reminder popped up.

I do need reminders about many things, but leaving today isn’t one of them!  :-)))

I’m very excited and my thoughts are just flying off in all directions.  I need to get calm, and bring my thoughts into some semblance of order….you know….get it together.  Writing can be almost a meditation for me so, here I am.

I’ll keep it short though, because I really do need to get some sleep.  Saturday was another long day of making difficult decisions about what to keep and what should go where.  In the end, I don’t remember where I put things!  I can imagine there will be a lot of searching, rearranging and reorganizing  in the next few weeks…umm….months.  And more downsizing.  I’m very into this downsizing, but apparently I haven’t done enough of it!

To add to the confusion today, my phone has been malfunctioning, so I decided I had to buy a new one before I set off.  Having a working phone is pretty important for me at this point.  I’m an Apple girl and it’s not like I can just walk in and purchase a phone and walk out.  The phone has to be ‘set up’ and I definitely needed help doing that so I spent some time hanging out while it uploaded and downloaded and did whatever else it needed to do to be a happy, healthy phone.  My friend Anne and her daughter Cecelia were there supporting me in that venture and later she got the blue tooth working with my truck so I have ‘hands free’ calling.  Thank you Anne and CeCe!

Through the rest of the day friends Jo and then Nellie and Pablo visited and also my son Jason.  He helped me out by taking a few more items to storage for me. Between and after visits I continued to load and rearrange the truck (Joy Ride…JR) and the trailer (Wandering Spirit….WS), until about 8pm when I pretty much collapsed and did actually sleep until midnight.  Now, hopefully I can get another hour or two of snoozing in before coffee time.  Good night! 🙂

Thank you so much for letting me follow along on your journey.
I hope your coffee is extra satisfying this morning.
    Enjoy today!

It’s almost noon here in Texas and almost 10:00 in California so my guess is that you’re almost or already on the road since I can’t imagine any way you overslept! Like others, I usually can’t sleep the night before we hit the road. Paul likes to leave at dark:thirty in the morning but I’d rather be gone the afternoon before. I always sleep better in the Casita and that’s my wish for you. More restful sleep in Wandering Spirit than ever before.

We can’t wait to read more about your adventures! Thank you for the link to them.

  4. Left at 9:20 my time, which was 20 minutes later than the latest I wanted to leave. Last minute things take more than last minutes! Visiting with friends on the way now. About to sit down to a beautiful lunch in the garden.

What a nice day to start your adventure. I’m looking forward to following along. I have to admit I am a wee bit envious….I’m only vacationing and part-timing at this point but yearn for the unstructured and open-ended aspects of full-timing. My first extended trip will lift-off after Labor Day. Weather permitting (and since it is a drought year, I suspect it will) I plan to head north and wander about in Oregon, Washington and maybe Idaho and Montanna for 4-6 weeks. Weather may drive me further south, but that’s the idea for now.

Good luck, and thank you for letting us follow along via your blog!

So LJ, you’re on the road! Oh my, it has finally happened! I am sooooo ‘happy’ for you!! Very excited for your next posting!!!! You’ll find in time how little you need. My first trip in Steel Wheel taught me about over packing, teehee. You will have fun searching, sorting etc, I loved the rearranging and I know WS is bigger than SW. hug, Ego….

Hi all from Laura & Joel in Palo Alto! We had a lovely lunch in the garden, Joel finished up a little electronics project, I added a few bottles of wine to the payload and…she’s off! We’ll send her the photos we took today, and look forward to following the adventure.

  8. Yes feeling very discombobulated right now… Unorganized. In a few days when I get to a place I’m staying more than one day I’ll start working on making things more livable.
Right now I’m thinking… What else do I need besides this moon? 🙂
