A Visit From Mary

If you have been reading here awhile you may remember that Mary is my friend from California who graciously allows Joy, Shiloh, and I to stay at her house when we periodically visit the home place.

Mary has recently retired and has started traveling too, but using her ‘Prius RV’.  You might be asking, what is a Prius RV?

Well, it’s a Toyota Prius, in this case a 2015.  Mary has done a lot of research with bloggers and pod casters who who are camping in their Prius.  Though she has a Toyota Sunraider motorhome, she decided to take the challenge and go for an extended camping trip in her car, and she’s loving it!  She is especially loving the money she saves on gas.  She has her little home all set up with everything she needs including a comfy place to sleep.

So anyway Mary came here and parked at my very large site at CLR and we had 4 days of visiting and fun.  We shopped and lunched in the artsy town of Tubac.

Our Margritias were an important part of lunch!

We attended happy hour at Fort Kelly, and a Margarita party at the same location.  We joined a campfire at Ruth and Joyce’s place, and made  popcorn at our own campfire under a magnificent moon one night.  The premier adventure though, was a 5 hour desert excursion with Fred in the side by side 4 wheeler.

Ready to go!

He had us pack our lunches and gave us a fantastic tour that included Sunshine Mine,

not to mention so many beautiful views and the bumpiest, wildest ride over the washed out trails you can even imagine!  Whew!  Hold onto your hat!

While all this was going on, Colleen came to my house and babysat for Joy and Shiloh.  Do friends get any kinder than this?

It was sad to see Mary leave so soon, but she has much exploring to do and needed to get on her way.

My friend Sharron planned to visit next, however she got 3 miles down the 8 mile dirt road here and decided she didn’t want to bring her rig farther on this road!  Lots of people bring rigs here and they do fine, but it’s a decision you need to make…it’s not for everyone.

Oh my this looks fun. So…is Mary sleeping in a tent? Or the car? That is so cool! I’ve often wondered if I could just take the car and the tent and go on an extended trip. I think I could.

Your son’s link works for me. Too bad I’m not so much into sports. Tomorrow is the Superbowl…I usually go see a movie.

I would love to have seen inside Mary’s Prius and what her camping arrangements are!

Mary intrigues me, how is she sleeping etc ?

    • She has done her research Linda, that’s for sure! She has a small but very comfy futon that she uses to sleep on. She has cooking utensils, food, the cooler, cloths, and yup, even a fold up potty if that becomes necessary.
See Laura’s post above for where to see more pictures, though she doesn’t use the tent that attaches to the car at this time.

So happy that Mary got to see your Arizona home, the off-road trip and picnic sounds fantastic! Gotta get out there myself, and soon I suppose – will not bring the sports car 🙂

Such a joy to see your beautiful place in Arizona Micky. Not only is it beautiful, but the neighbors are fantastic! It’s great to see how they make a visit to give the dogs a treat and how they all help each other. Also, the 4:00 pm Happy Hour is tops!
I wish I could post more info and pictures of my Prius Camper set up, but I just have my phone right now, and it’s not letting me. However, much of my inspiration for using the Prius comes from YouTube. Prius Stealth Camper is my favorite. He is a class act. There are so many advantages to using the Prius to camp in. It’s basically a generator on wheels. Kind of the Swiss Army Knife of vehicles. The car can be left on at night to run the heater or AC. It is very quite and only comes on a few minutes every hour or so. It can charge all my appliances. No need for solar or a noisy gas generator. It has many safety features (including an alarm) that my motorhome doesn’t have. Plus, I can easily go and park anywhere. When I am fully set up, I have a small tent to store my gear, and a large Clam Instant screen tent for my outdoor space. Still working on organization, but really loving the ease of traveling.

Mary, I am so happy you are on the road! And you were able to visit Micky! I know she loved hosting you!

    • Thanks for posting that info Mary. In the next blog post I will mention that you commented here with more info. Seems like others are interested in your Prius idea!
I’m so glad you enjoyed your time here at the ranch. It was really nice to have you here and get to share this beautiful place with a friend. I was glad you felt the same as I do about it… good to have affirmation from a trusted friend.

    • Mary my reply to you is below Patty’s.
