Oranges

Oranges everywhere….and for some reason they make me want to smile all the time.

Smiling orange.

I don’t know how many orange trees are in Orange Grove RV Park, near Bakersfield, but I’ll guess about 500, plus there are orange groves to the right, left, and behind the park.  The showers are spa-like and oh so clean.  There are clean laundry facilities and a swimming pool.  Free donuts and coffee every morning.  And oranges….no charge.  Highly recommended!

I’m surrounded by oranges that make me smile.

And tomorrow I’ll be leaving the oranges behind and heading for the Monterey Bay….and the home place.  I-5, to Hwy 46 to 101….about 215 miles to Mary’s house, farther than I usually like to drive in a day, but I’d rather ‘just do it’….just get there.

Thats what it use to be like where I live here in Florida, until a horrible bug made them burn acres and acres of trees, but since then many have replanted and one day it will be a sea of orange and grapefruit trees again. Don’t ya just love to pick an orange from a tree and eat it right on the spot. Sooooo sweet and juicy!!!! Have fun Micky!!!

  6. Hi Pam, that’s really heartbreaking to have to burn all those trees!
Much of California is a huge garden too, with citrus, vineyards, almond trees and vegetables of every sort. Bugs are a major issue here and they have agricultural check points at every entrance into the state to try to prevent devestating insect damage such as what happened in Florida. Water though is a whole nother problem…
Yes…nothing like a sweet, juicy orange…unless it’s biting into one of those luscious, juicy tomatoes, warm from the sun, that our moms used to grow in their little gardens out by the lake…

  7. Curious about your decisions to stay in campgrounds with facilities vs. boondocking. I know you’ve mentioned that you like the convenience of electricity, water, etc. but wonder if that is the primary reason…or is there a fear factor, maybe feeling more isolated/vulnerable in some boondock situations? I certainly see the monetary advantage of boondocking but wonder more about your perspective since you are living it.
Hope you’ve had safe travels “home”!

    • I’ve been thinking about that lately myself, Cindy.
      Some thoughts…
After I hurt my back in early June, I really didn’t want to boon dock for awhile. I wanted as many conveniences and as little heavy work as possible. It took 2 months for me to feel decent again, nand another month to feel almost normal. I’m still calling it 90%, but I could certainly boon dock now without it being a concern for my back.
One thing I feel like is in those months of healing I got kinda spoiled with the luxuries of hook ups and showers and laundry nearby. It became very easy to continue with that. But at the same time I was missing the solitude and the out of the way locations.
I also got used to having people around. Oxymoron…
And yes, I felt a bit of fear, mostly around Halloween. I let it get to me I guess.
I think I’m feeling a general uneasiness related to the upcoming election.
Right now I feel like I need to get myself together…what ever that means…but it seems like I can do it best from a secure base, and that’s where I sitting now…at my friend Mary’s house.
Getting it together seems to infur that something has come apart. Nothing has but I do feel like I have a lot of loose ends right now.
I dunno…just feel like I need to touch base right now…
