Payson Dog Park

With all the freedom  this wandering lifestyle brings, often the dogs are not so free.  Leash laws are most everywhere, and for good reason, but dogs need to be able to full out run!

True, RV parks sometimes have ‘dog runs’, but often they are small and dumpy.  The RV park I’m in now has the worst ‘dog run’ ever.  They boast two of them.  Here is one:

IMG_5909  They have another one about the same size next to the dumpster!

But yay!  The city of Payson has a dog park and it’s excellent, located at Rumsey Park,  in town with baseball diamonds, tennis courts, etc.

Extra bonus…when we show up there are friendly dogs in it. (Friendly people too).IMG_5911

There is an area designated for small or less active dogs:

This is a good sized area by itself, but then there is the rest of the park, and that is HUGE.

There is plenty of shade to play in, and for the humans, plenty of benches and picnic tables.

Cold water for canines and for humans:

There are poop bags…

And the humans can learn about dog related activities going on in the area:

Last but not least, free live entertainment is provided….in the form of enticing, teasing squirrels:

Joy and Shiloh can!

We will definitely be returning for more play time here, while we are in the Payson area.

We used to take our daughter’s dog to a dog park in Ann Arbor. She would sniff one and then just do her own thing, sniff. Do you see that behavior? Maybe it was because she was older and an alpha.

    • Hi Daniaflorida, welcome to this blog! So good to have you along for the ride!

Sniffing seems to be Joy and Shiloh’s primary occupation! I guess in a dog park where there are SO many new and different scents, sniffing is a big deal. When you consider their noses are so sensitive…I often think what great stories they could tell me about what they are smelling!

Yay for good clean dog parks. Glad you found a clean safe place. Missy is the social one, my little JRT, not so much. She pretty much sits on my lap. I like the one paw on the tree pic. They are waiting…..

    • Hi Alice, yes I think they were trying to figure out how to climb the tree! I missed the shot where they were both standing up against the tree. :-))
Missy is social and your JRT likes to sit on your lap. Isn’t it interesting how each has their own distinct personality? I love that.

Good to know about the great dog park! Joy and Shiloh really look happy especially with the squirrel entertainment! I miss you all:)

    • Hi Sharron, yes squirrels, along with bunnies…oh boy!
We miss you too. In fact yesterday someone here at the RV park was walking their mini Doxie, and the dogs perked right up. I do believe they were thinking of Peggy Sue!

I’m usually leery of dog parks because of irresponsible owners, but this one sounds like one of the good ones.

    • Hi Pat, and welcome! Good to have you here.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean, and it is always something to watch out for….irresponsible owners. It can happen anywhere, and I think it’s good to assess what’s happening in the park before you go in, and be alert any time another dog and owner show up.
Good point. Thanks for bringing it up.
